The issue of periodic water cuts that has been affecting the connected islands of Addu City islands has been resolved.
Addu City has been experiencing occasional water cuts since last Ramadan. The Addu City Council had expressed concern over the issue, with Mayor Ali Nizar urging the government to take the water problem seriously. Last week, an emergency motion was raised in Parliament regarding the issue.
Addu City's water supply company, FENAKA said the issue has now been successfully addressed with the installation of a water pump.
“The installation of the pump will provide uninterrupted water supply to Hithadhoo, Maradhoo, Maradhoo Feydhoo, and Feydhoo,” FENAKA said.
On April 13, the government awarded a contract to the MWSC to find a permanent solution to Addu City's water issues. The value of the project is MVR 282.6 million.
