MDP criticizes Maldives depature from the Commonwealth

The Maldivan Democratic Party (M.D.P) has admonished the Maldives departure from the commonwealth. The government gave reasons for the Maldives decided to leave the commonwealth as being differentiated from the other members, and saying that the commonwealth was trying to influence decisions taken inside the Maldives. But nevertheless MDP has issued a statement saying that this was a sudden, autocratic move.

And MDP also accuses the government of leaving the Commonwealth because the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG) has included the Maldives in its agenda and suggested some problems that needed to be fixed. MDP also said that since joining the Commonwealth in 1982, the Maldives has experienced growth in the medical, educational and economical fields and that leaving the Commonwealth would result in a lot of setbacks for the country.

The Commonwealth also issued a statement, saying that they express sadness at seeing the Maldives leave and that the door is always open if the Maldives were ever to return.
