Former President and PPM Leader Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has cancelled his upcoming Egypt tour.
His visit is on invitation from Egypt's Grand Mufti Dr. Shauqee Allam.
PPM Deputy Secretary General Abdul Aleem today said the former President will not be making the trip to Egypt due to the internal situation in the Party, adding that it was a crucial time in and for the Party. He said President Maumoon had decided to cancel the trip in order to work on behalf of the members of the Party.
Serious dissent had sparked within PPM ranks over various issues. The Party's Parliamentary Group had extended invitation to President Maumoon and President Yameen for an open dialogue to resolve the issues. Only President Yameen had accepted the invitation. PPM PG Leader Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik had stressed on the importance of dialogue to resolve the issues.
