A case has been filed in Civil Court to remove former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom as President of Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM). The case was filed by Naifaru Constituency MP Ahmed Shiyam and Hulhudhoo Constituency MP Mohamed Shahid.
The case filed in Civil Court requested for an injunction on the Party Council to remove Maumoon as Party Leader and assign the Party leadership to an individual capable of protecting the rights and interests.
The case filed by the two MPs said the Party's President should be an individual capable of running the Party in accordance with the laws and regulations of the Party. However, they say President Maumoon had hijacked the Party and suspended Party operations, in addition to breaching the Political Parties Act.
In the previous case filed in Civil Court, the Court had issued an injunction to reverse the order by Maumoon. Maumoon had ordered a halt to Party activities. The injunction had not been implemented. The case filed today had also requested the Court to implement the ruling.
Court summons also has been issued on Maumoon to respond to the case at 3.30 pm tomorrow.
