Civil Court has issued summons on Progressive Party of the Maldives on the case where Party President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom ordered a suspension of Party activities.
The case was filed by Naifaru Constituency MP Ahmed Shiyam and Hulhudhoo Constituency MP Mohamed Shahid. The Court summons ordered PPM to attend a hearing at 3.30 pm tomorrow.
The case filed in Civil Court requested for an injunction on the Party Council to remove Maumoon as Party Leader and assign the Party leadership to an individual capable of protecting the rights and interests.
The case filed by the two MPs said the Party's President should be an individual capable of running the Party in accordance with the laws and regulations of the Party. However, they say President Maumoon had hijacked the Party and suspended Party operations, in addition to breaching the Political Parties Act.
In the previous case filed in Civil Court, the Court had issued an injunction to reverse the order by Maumoon. Maumoon had ordered a halt to Party activities. The injunction had not been implemented. The case filed today had also requested the Court to implement the ruling.
