Maumoon files PPM case in Supreme Court

A case has been filed at the Supreme Court on behalf of former President and Progressive Party of Maldives(PPM) leader Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom, regarding the decision by the High Court to uphold the Civil Courts ruling handing control of the party to President Abdulla Yameen in the capacity of the chief adviser -- a default post offered to the party's successful presidential candidate under the party charter.

The appeal to overturn the Civil Court's ruling was filed in the High Court by party member Abbas Wareef. Abbas had made the appeal while Gayyoom was still making preparations, prompting him to intervene himself into the case.

The High Court upheld the Civil Courts decision, saying that there were no grounds for it to change. Gayyoom's daughter, Yumna Maumoon said outside the court that they were not happy with the court's decision.
