World Class anti terrorism seminar starts in Maldives

Maldives has initiated a world class seminar today, regarding counter terrorism and violent extremism.

11 countries and the United Nations take part in the seminar started today at Kurumba Maldives Resort. Countries such as India, the United States and Britain are taking part in this seminar. This seminar was organized by the joints effort of National Counter Terrorism Center and United Nations.

Speaking at the ceremony held to kick off the seminar, Defense Minister Adam Shareef Umar said that the target of this seminar is to work against terrorism and extremism, and to exchange expertise on these subjects. He also stated that this seminar will show the importance the Maldives gives against terrorism.

"Terrorism and extremism are the plagues of this century, there is no doubt that this is the biggest threat to all the nations of the world," the Minister said.

The Minister noted on the importance of unity between countries to maintain stability in the world, and he said that even though Maldives may be small, the country still has a huge responsibility in the fight against terrorism.

Zakariyya Mansoor, the Director General of the Counter Terrorism Center said that the most important step against terrorism is understanding and researching what is going on in the international community, and taking a united stand against it. He also says that today's seminar was led by the Maldives in unity with the neighboring countries as a part of this effort.

While today's seminar is being held in Kurumba, participants of the seminar will travel to Himmafushi for tomorrows event. Hulhumale' is also on the destination list for this seminar. The Minister said that the reason for this is to show the participants the culture and lifestyle of the Maldives.
