Former Vice President of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Alhan Fahumee has filed a case in court to fight his alleged wrongful expulsion from the party.
The main opposition party had ousted Alhan accusing the former lawmaker of violating the party's charter and bringing disrepute to the party's reputation.
Allegations against Alhan include failing to recognizing the opposition alliance of which MDP was a member, public statements in favour of the government and causing discord in the party office. The complaint was filed to the party disciplinary committee with the signature of 50 members of MDP's national council.
The dispute resolution phase of the case will begin at the Civil Court at 2:30 PM Sunday afternoon. If a resolution agreeable to both parties involved in the matter fails to appear in this phase, the case will continue on to a trial.
MDP had also given four stipulations to Alhan upon his removal from the party. The first stipulation was that Alhan could only request to join MDP with the application forms of 50 other new members. He also had to issue a public apology and even if Alhan decided to rejoin the party, he could not participate in any inter-party elections for the next three years.
Alhan has also filed a different case in court against MDP, stating that the party has failed to hold elections to appoint a new party leader. He has requested for a court order to force the party to hold elections to fill the positions of party president and vice president. This case has also been accepted by the civil court.
