Maldivian to bring in more aircrafts for six new airports

The national airline, Maldivian has informed that they are bringing in more flights next year to strengthen its fleet in preparation for the six new airports set to open next year all over the Maldives.

The Managing Director of Island Aviation Services, the parent company of the airline, Abdul Haris said while speaking with 'Avas' on Sunday that the incoming flights are of the Dash-8 series, and that these flights are set to operate in the airport being opened in Dhaal Atoll. Haris also explained that even more flights would be brought in next year as part of the effort to strengthen its fleet.

Maldivian already boasts a fleet of 10 seaplanes, two airbuses and eight aircrafts of the Dash-8 series.

"As more and more airports are opening all over the Maldives, our aim has become to increase flights to these locations. We will also be working on bringing even more planes in next year," Haris said.

The government has planned to start the projects of building four different airports next year. An amount of MVR 629.10 million has been included in the budget as part of this effort. The Gan International Airport is also being upgraded, and will be unveiled next Tuesday. A MVR 846.4 million has been also been planned for upgrading the Ibrahim Nasir International Airport.

New airports are being opened in Haa Dhaal, Shaviyani, Gaaf Dhaal and Faaf Atolls.
