Raajje TV urges govt to drop charges against journos

Opposition aligned Raajje TV Wednesday urged the government to drop the charges against the station's two journalists.

Raajje TV in a statement insisted that the pair were innocent and the charges against the two were completely unfounded.

"The station calls on all rights groups and independent institutions to join the efforts to save the two innocent journalists from persecution," the statement read.

The statement came hours after the Criminal Court scheduled the sentencing hearing for the two Raajje TV journalists for December 19 over charges of obstructing police officers.

The Raajje TV pair Mohamed Wisam and Leevan Ali Naseer is accused of attempting to block the arrest of the station's COO Hussain Fiyaz Moosa on November 2 during a bomb scare in the capital.
Police had reportedly tried to clear the area and when Fiyaz refused, police were forced to take him into custody.

The pair had allegedly tried to intervene with Wisam accused of grabbing a police officer from behind while Leevan attempted to break an officer's hold on Fiyaz.

Fiyaz has also been charged in the incident and his trial is ongoing.
