The State Trading Organisation (STO) has signed an agreement with the National Drug Agency (NDA) to provide job opportunities for youth recovering from drug addiction.
Signing the agreement on behalf of STO was Managing Director Ahmed Shaheer, and signing on behalf of NDA was CEO Hassan Shaahil.
Shaheer said that this step was taken by the STO in an effort against drugs and to introduce recovering addicts back into the community.
"The drug crisis is a plague to the nation. Every family in the country has faced this issue. So it is the responsibility of everyone to save the country from this epidemic," Shaheer said.
According to the agreement signed between the two entities, jobs will be provided for four youngsters in various companies managed under STO. Shaheer said that the jobs will be temporary at first, and that they will be made more permanent after looking at the performance.
CEO of NDA, Shaheel said at the signing ceremony that STO is already a company that works closely with the organisation, and that the cooperation of as many companies as possible would be needed to ensure that the fight against drugs overseen by the Vice President of Maldives, Abdulla Jihad is a success.
"This is part of the effort to make a drug free community. Some kids are already working in private companies under this effort," Shaheel said.
STO is a company that has always provided such services to the public.
