Ministry to probe expat 'control' over local market

Economic Ministry has launched a probe into mounting complaints over the control expatriates have on the local market in the capital Male.

The Ministry said numerous complaints of expatriates taking control in the locals markets used to sell locally produced food items.

The Ministry said that early investigations confirm the heavy foreign presence in the local market blocks.

Efforts have been started to solve this issue, and to hand the control of the local markets and sale of local produce to Maldivians.
