Over 75,000 Maldivians headed to Sri Lanka for school holidays

The number of Maldivians who traveled to neighbouring Sri Lanka last month for the school holidays has risen to over 79,000 statistics have shown.

According to Sri Lankan tourism statistics 74,343 Maldivians headed to the neighbouring country for the school holidays last year. However, the number had reached 79,255 this November which is a more than six percent increase.

Maldives remains among the top 10 countries with most tourists to Sri Lanka.

The uptick in numbers this year could be attributed to the low fares to Sri Lanka offered by several airlines for November.

Maldives central bank had earlier said it had sold almost USD3 million to locals travelling abroad for the school holidays.
