Maldivian authorities have intercepted 468.6kg of drugs from a Sri Lankan fishing boat within the Maldivian waters. The vessel was seized by MNDF Coast Guard off HDh. Makunudhoo.
Speaking to reporters, Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau said MNDF reported the drug case to the police at 12:45 am on Sunday. The boat, now at HDh. Kulhudhuffushi Harbor, was crewed by five Sri Lankan men.
Preliminary tests show the haul included 344kg of methamphetamine and 124.6kg of cocaine. The CP said the street value of the drugs is estimated at MVR 1 billion.
As the case is still under investigation, it is currently unclear if the drugs are linked to any Maldivian networks.
