The Maldives Media Council (MMC) elections has been held on Monday, with 29 candidates.
A total of 86 votes were cast in the elections held at the Home Ministry. The elections was held to appoint seven members from various medias and six members from the public.
The Media Council consists of 15 members, 8 from the media and 7 from the public.
However, Mohamed Afzal who was on the council on a media slot resigned some later Monday.
Only 7 members from the media were voted in, due to a tie between Hithadhoo Online's Ahmed Azif and Mohamed Hamdhoon from Mihaaru News. A tie breaking vote will be held between these two candidates at a later date.

- Fayaz Yousuf (PSM) - 55 votes
- Ahmed Rifaau (V Media) - 69 votes
- Ahmed Mujthaba (Sun Media) - 57 votes
- Abdul Mueed Hassan (Bahuru) - 44 votes
- Misbah Abbas (VFP) - 41 votes
- Hassan Shaakir Mohamed (Asdhandi) - 41 votes
Out of the 12 candidates from the public, 6 were voted in.
Members appointed from the public
- Ahmed Abeer Ismail - 81 votes
- Shaufa Hussain - 74 votes
- Mohamed Azim Abdul Haadhee - 73 votes
- Anwar Ibrahim - 62 votes
- Assad Shareef - 45 votes
While one seat on the Media Council still remains vacant, an election will be held between the two candidates who are tied to fill the vacant seat.
