Education ministry Monday banned the sale and promotion of energy drinks in schools throughout the archipelago.
Under a directive by the president's office, the ministry has banned the sale and promotion of energy drinks in canteens, school related activities and events with effect from Sunday.
The ministry in a statement said the initiative was to protect students from the harmful effects of consuming energy drinks and had also banned the school management from using sponsorship of energy drink suppliers and distributors for school activities and events.
