Ministry denies plan to collect fees on solar panels

The Environment Ministry Monday denied rumours that the government is planning to charge fee from members of the public who have installed solar panels.

An official of the Environment Ministry told Avas said that the rumors were baseless, and that the Ministry has been working towards making it easier for the public to install solar panels and rely on renewable energy.

"These rumors are baseless. No charges will collected from those who installed solar panels. There are no such plans," the official said.

The Environment Ministry had been in discussions with banks last year to introduce loans of 500 million Rufiya with lowered interest to those who wanted to enter the renewable energy sector.

The government has also planned to ensure that 30% of the daytime energy is produced through renewable means.
