Maldives' first dredger successfully undocks

Maldives first ever dredger was successfully undocked from a boat yard in China on Thursday.

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) had contracted to build the hopper suction dredger worth USD36 million to Netherlands-based IHC Company.

MTCC had said the 92m long 16m wide dredger, would have the capacity to carry 3,700 cubic meters of sand and dredge from 50m deep areas.

The land reclamation dredger would be capable of reclaiming one hectare of new land in just two days.

MTCC CEO Ibrahim Ziyath had said the named 'Maha Jarraafu' would undergo several tests before it is delivered to the Maldives in April.
