State Electric Company enters graft fight

A huge LED screen has been set up in the road surrounding Male', with an initiative from the State Electric Company (STELCO) to showcase dramas and video clips prepared by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC). The screen will begin operating on Monday.

This screen is being set up with the joint efforts of STELCO and the ACC, and an agreement has been signed between the two parties on Sunday. This is the first time a government company has put inked such a deal with the ACC.

ACC chief Hassan Luthfee said after signing the agreement that STELCO deserves to be commended for standing up in the fight against corruption.

He encouraged other government entities and institutions to follow STELCO's example and to take their own initiatives in the fight against corruption.

"The ACC alone cannot stop corruption. The ACC can only do this with the cooperation of the public. Corruption always has two sides and only the joint efforts of both sides can help put an end to corruption," Luthufee said.

The Managing Director of STELCO, Abdul Shukoor Solih said the company records large sums both in revenue and expenditure which prompts close scrutiny.

Shukoor said the internal matters of the company is always handled under the proper company guidelines and protocols.

Shukoor further said that STELCO screen will be visible for a very large radius. He stated that the constant information provided by the screen will increase the awareness of the people in matters regarding corruption.

Other projects are also set to be carried out under this agreement. Luthufee explained that the STELCO framework will be properly examined for loopholes, and employees would receive proper training.
