STELCO brings in new generator to solve power outages

The State Electric Company (STELCO), has brought in another generator of eight megawatts, and has started the process of installing it. The company revealed that the new generator would increase the electricity capacity of the capital Male to 70 megawatts.

The Senior Engineer of STELCO, Ibrahim Rauf stated that the generator, which was brought in through a Finnish company, would be delivered to STELCO some time on Sunday and that work on connecting the generator to the internet would begin later the same day.

He also informed that an area had already been cleared for the generator.

STELCO expects that the new generator would provide the company with enough capacity to cater the spike in electricity consumption in warmer months without overloads.

There are currently 64 megawatts of energy generated in Male from 26 generators.
