The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has ruled that no corruption was involved in the procurement of safaris for travel and accommodation during the 17th SAARC Summit, held in Addu City.
In the investigative report released by the Commission, it was stated that a total six safaris were rented without a tender process. However, it was revealed that this was due to the nations attending the summit making last second additions to their delegations, which the the two resorts designated to house the delegates had been unable to accommodate the new additions on such short notice.
ACC said the decision to rent safaris at the cheapest possible price was a last minute effort by the SAARC Task Force to save face for the nation under a special authority.
Half of the payment for the safaris were made in advance, due to the companies renting the safaris refusing to provide service unless 50% was paid upfront according to the the ACC, causing them to conclude that there was no discernible proof that any abuse of power or any other form of corruption was involved in obtaining the safaris.
