Mercure Maldives Resort to open this month

The final preparations are now being made to open the 68 room Mercure resort later this month in Gaaf Alif Atoll Kooddoo island.

This will be the first resort to be opened on an island with direct access to an airport.

All the construction work on the resort, branded as Mercure Kooddoo, has now been completed, and the resort will open next week. The resort houses 43 rooms, 25 beach rooms, a gym, spa as well as centers for water sports and diving.

This is the fifth resort being opened in Huvadhoo Atoll by the French Company, and the first to be built alongside a regional airport. Kooddoo is also home to one of the government's main fisheries factory.

The government has announced plans to unveil 20 new resorts within the year as part of a bid to promote tourism. The aim of the government is to open 50 new resorts during its term.
