Maldives 'Gold 100' revealed during colorful gala

The Gold 100 Gala event set to select the 100 top companies operating in various fields in the Maldives has been held on Tuesday night, with prominent leaders of businesses in attendance. This is the first time such a list has been compiled in the Maldives.

The event was held at the Kurumba Resort, with the Governor of the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), Azeema Adam in attendance as the chief guest.

The Gold 100 list includes government owned companies, companies involved in the tourism industry, insurance companies as well as furniture retailers.

Some notable companies on the list include the Crown and Champa Resorts, Universal Enterprises, Villa Shipping, Ooredoo, Dhiraagu, Coastline Hardware, the Sun Siyam Company as well as the Rainbow Company.

Some notable government companies on the list include the Bank of Maldives (BML) the State Trading Organisation (STO), the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), Allied Insurance, Maldives Gas, the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), along with the Airports Company.

Plaques were awarded to the 100 companies included on the list, and a detailed profile on the companies can be found on the Gold 100 Magazine. A special consultant team was chosen to make sure the 100 companies were chosen in a fair manner for the list which will be released annually by Corporate Maldives in the final quarter of every year.

The CEO of Corporate Maldives, Dr. Hussein Sunny Umar stated that a lot of setbacks were faced during the compilation of the list. Sunny also commented that the 100 companies included in the list were chosen by the judging panel after great deliberation among the 10,000 companies registered in the Maldives.

The main sponsor of the Gold 100 Gala Night was the Bank of Maldives. Allied, The Maldives Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC), MTCC and Dhiraagu are among co-sponsors. The Ministry of Finance, MMA, the Maldives Stock Exchange as well as the Capital Market Development Authority all have played an important role in the event.
