Criminal Court on Monday fined opposition aligned Raajje TV Cameraman, Adam Zareer MVR3,000 after he was convicted of obstructing police officers during an opposition protest in 2015.
Zareer was charged following the protests by the opposition on the 25th of March 2015, where he reportedly broke police barricades and entered an area closed off by the police.
Two Raajje TV journalists meanwhile had been convicted and fined over a similar offence last month.
Charges have also been pressed against the CEO of Raajje TV, Hussein Fiyaz, however his trial has now been on hold for some time. This is the first case where criminal charges were filed against journalists in Maldives in recent history.
