Maldives looks to eliminate TB

In an effort to eradicate TB from Maldives, the health ministry on Sunday met with foreign experts to discuss the initiative to make Maldives a TB free country.

The ministry will carry out discussions with officials who are currently in the capital Male from the organisations; 'Stop TB' and 'Global Fund To Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria'.

The Global Fund is an international financing organisation, while Stop TB works towards achieving a TB-free world.

According to the health ministry, these discussions mainly consisted of reviewing the results of the TB program conducted recently and surveying the spread of TB among the migrant workers.

The ministry has also said that the team will be meeting with civil societies and other relevant organisations regarding the matter.

Both organisations are represented by their respective executive directors, Dr Mark Dybul on behalf of The Global Fund and Dr Lucica Ditiu from Stop TB.

In Maldives' effort to eliminate measles and rubella, a national campaign is underway for vaccination. In 2016, WHO declared and certified Maldives as a Filariasis free country.
