Pregnant woman dies of swine flu

The ongoing H1N1 epidemic on Sunday claimed the life of a pregnant woman, taking the fatality count to five. State-run Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) spokesperson said the 29 year old woman had been on ventilator when she succumbed to the disease.

The woman had been tested positive for swine flu and had been receiving treatment since March 5.

While 185 people have been confirmed positive for the virus thus far in the Maldives, the amount of people seeking treatment for the flu has started to decrease across the nation. Some restrictions previously placed due to the outbreak of swine flu have now been lifted. Although schools have officially resumed as of this Sunday, some parents have been reluctant to send their children to school out fear of infection.
