A parliamentary committee on Tuesday voted to summon relevant health officials over the continued spread of the H1N1 virus in the Maldives.

The government oversight committee has summoned the government task force constituted to tackle the epidemic on Wednesday evening.

The committee would seek information on the steps taken by the government to curb the spread of the flu.

Health authorities meanwhile, have said the patient count at the various flu clinics set up to handle the outbreak had been steadily declining.

Government had re-opened public schools on Sunday, but two more swine flu deaths this week had forced the education ministry to close schools for the rest of the week.

The fatality count now stands at six since the outbreak over a fortnight ago.
