Coastguard rescues 20 from grounded speedboat

Maldives coastguard on Monday rescued twenty people from a speedboat which ran aground near Bathala Island Resort while transporting passengers from Alif Alif Atoll.

The speedboat had run aground around 8:15am Monday but no one had been hurt in the incident.

According to the coastguard all the passengers and the crew had been safely brought to the capital Male. Several young children had been aboard when the accident took place.

A vessel recently launched into service by the military was responsible for the transport of the rescued passengers.
