Plans are underway to arrange more charter flights to connect Europe with Gan International Airport in the southernmost Atoll Addu.
Inner Maldives' managing director Mohamed Firaq on Saturday revealed, at the Investor's Forum held at Addu, that the firm is working with European airlines to commence flights to Gan in hopes of connecting with the continent.
“More flights will be arriving next year which will establish Europe connectivity. The airline is a flag carrier in Middle East and travels to over 60 destinations worldwide, including Eastern Europe” Firaq said.
Firaq stated that necessary research and surveys are now being undertaken. He also revealed that the operations will commence in March 2018, adding however that airline will officially launch in November of this year.
Gan Airport has also previously had charter flights from Europe, with recent upgrades allowing for much more to be done in the larger space.
Sri Lankan was the first international carrier to launch its services, directly connecting Gan with Colombo.
