State collects MVR1.2 bn as revenue in May

The state received MVR 1.2 billion as revenue in March, which is a 5.9 percent increase in the total revenue compared to the corresponding period of last year, statistics published by Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has revealed. 

According to MIRA’s statistics, the biggest contributors to the increase in total revenue in May is Good and Services Tax (GST), Withholding Tax, Airport Service Charge and Green Tax.

While GST brought in the biggest revenue for the state last month with MVR 598.2 million, Bank Profit Tax (BPT) had brought in a revenue of MVR 317.1 million accounting to 26 percent of the total revenue.

The state collected MVR 72.4 million as BPT, MVR 63.1 million as Green Tax and MVR49.1 million as Service Charge.

MIRA also revealed that authority had collected 35.2 million in USD during the month of May.

The highest total revenue, MVR 1.3 billion, was collected in March this year thus far. MIRA is also taking extra initiative to collect due taxes.
