Firm looks to commercialize hot air balloons after fest success

The success of Maldives' first hot air balloon festival has prompted organizers to seek commercialization of the balloons throughout the archipelago.

Event managing company Unix Sporting’s managing director Reyshan Shareef told Avas that hot air balloons had great prospect in a tourism savvy country such as the Maldives.

Reyshan said Unix Sporting intends to commercialize hot air balloons to help tourists to admire and see the beauty of the island nation from above.

"There is great potential for hot air balloons here [Maldives]. Tourists would love the chance to see the Maldives on a hot air balloon. So we are hoping to bring in more balloons and expand it through the country," Reyshan explained.

The balloon festival held on Sunday to mark Fitr Eid attracted hundreds and was well received by the public.

Hot air balloons are flown in nations around the globe and remains a popular attraction for tourists.
