Tourist arrivals up 7.8 percent

Maldives recorded a rise of 7.8 percent in tourist arrivals during June, statistics have shown.

According to the statistics released by the tourism ministry, 85,222 tourists arrived in the archipelago in comparison with 79,034 during the same period last year.

The statistics also showed that arrivals from the UK, Russia and Italy recorded a healthy increase.

However, the Chinese and Indian market suffered a slide with arrivals decreasing by 15.7 percent from China and a slash of 48 percent in arrivals from India.
