Mega Maldives to recommence operations

Mega Maldives is preparing to recommence operations after a temporary suspension as part of its recapitalization efforts.

Avas understands that Mifzal Ahmed, who actively engaged in establishment of the airline in Maldives, had forfeited his share of the company. Thus the main shareholders of the company now are former finance ministry top official Rilwan Shareef and current CEO of the airline George Weinmann.

CEO Weinmann had stated that the airline will be resuming operations shortly.

Mega Maldives had temporarily suspended its commercial flight operations from the month of May, but is to recommence it’s operations with a renewed all airbus fleet.

In joint efforts with an American company, Mega Maldives was established as a scheduled airline in February 2010. Frequencies of scheduled flights have increased since and the airline currently operates four to five flights a week. Mega Maldives also played an important role in the tourism sector of the Maldives, bringing in the most Chinese tourists with their scheduled flights.
