Presient Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom on Monday assured local fishermen their challenges and constraints will be countered effectively.
Speaking at a ceremony to open a new ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) camp in the capital Male, president Yameen focused on the difficulties and challenges faced by the fishermen in Maldives vowing to provide relief to the fisheries industry.
President Yameen claimed that a budget of USD 20 million has been allocated for the fisheries sector which according to him would be utilized to ease the challenges and difficulties faced by local fishermen across the country.
Projects to be funded through the budget includes repairing and maintenance of defunct ice-plants while, procuring new ice plants and installation of ice-manufacturing equipment on fishing vessels, president Yameen detailed.
