Maldives pres hopes for stronger India ties

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom on Tuesday, expressed hopes of further strengthening bonds and diplomatic relations between Maldives and neighbouring India.

President sent a message to India’s president Ram Nath Kovind and prime minister Narendra Modi to convey wishes on occasion of India’s 70th Independence Day and expressed hope for strengthening the alliance between the two countries.

The message concluded with wishes for further progress and prosperity of the people of India.

Whilst the president has expressed hope to establish a better relationship with India, opposition has claimed that the relationship with India has been strained due to closer relations with China.

India celebrates the nation's independence from the United Kingdom on 15 August every year.
