Pres won't seek re-election, deputy JP leader claims

Opposition Jumhoory Party (JP) leader Abdulla Riyaz on Monday has heavily criticized the incumbent president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom insisting that the head of state has lost his credibility and love of his people.

Speaking during an opposition rally on Monday, the former police chief highlighted the declining popularity of president Yameen, adding that people had lost faith and respect for the president.

Riyaz also stressed that the head of state does not have the required potential and neither can he muster enough rapport with the people to grant him a smooth run at the Presidential Election of 2018 adding that the president would not seek re-election.

The Kibindhoo lawmaker also accused president Yameen of failing to adhere to good governance which according to Riyaz had attracted criticism from allies and members of his own cabinet.

In addition to this the ex-Commissioner recalled the time when the incumbent president had the full support of the nation - which he squandered by his own unjust actions.
