Assistant governor to take head position of central bank

Following the resignation of Governor Azeema Adam from central bank MMA - who is shifting to US with her diplomat husband Dr Ali Naseer - the de facto Governor Neeza Imad will fill the shoes of the top position.

Currently holding the designation of deputy Governor, Ms Imad's name had been submitted for approval as the new Governor by the President of Maldives Abdullah Yameen, at People's Majilis - the local parliament.

Ms Imad will be officially recognized as the new Governor once parliament members give the go-ahead, however the recent political unrest had left the lawmaking house idle with no confirmed date of recommence.

The second in-charge of central bank had been handling the Financial Stability sector until today - as she will be taking over the role of the Governor on an unofficial basis.

Governor Azeema Adam on Wednesday stepped down from her post to move to the US with her husband who was recently appointed as the new Permanent representative of the Maldives to the United Nations (UN).

Like her predecessor, the probable new Governor had served her tenure at central bank filling various designations and has handled several responsibilities.
