President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom on Monday nominated the current Ambassador to Japan Mohamed Hussain Shareef as the new Ambassador to Sri Lanka.
Shareef's nomination has been sent to Parliament for review and vetting.
The nomination was sent to the parliament 22 days before it was tabled on its agenda on August 22. The nomination will be forwarded to a committee of the parliament on Tuesday for further consideration.
Shareef had served as spokesperson during former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom's government, Youth Minister in Dr. Mohamed Waheed's presidency and as Minister at President's Office during the incumbent government before is posting in Japan.
