Ambassador and Governor illegitimacy to foreign bodies

The opposition alliance has warned to inform the illegitimacy of to-be-Ambassador to Sri Lanka Mohamed Hussain Shareef and the next in line governor Mohamed Naseer - whose names have been forwarded to Majlis for approval - to relevant foreign bodies, if their names get approval through a void parliament sitting.

During a news conference held on Tuesday, the North-Machhangolhi constituency member Imthiyaz Fahmy affirmed the concerns and claims of the opposition regarding an illegitimate Ambassador will be heeded by relevant and significant foreign bodies, including the Sri Lankan government.

He also assured the opposition will push their statements to other foreign missions stationed in Sri Lanka in their effort to oust a possible Ambassador whose appointment could have rooted through conflict.

Opposition had also stressed a similar conduct towards Mohamed Naseer who is in line to become governor - World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) would be notified accordingly if the next governor's name is approved through an invalid parliament sitting.

The MDP lawmaker also speculated the name approval will proceed through an oppressed Majlis sitting.

The recent sittings at local parliament had proceeded while opposition lawmakers continued their protests, in the presence of several officials from Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) blockading the speaker's chamber.

Members from opposition parties have called out such a sitting is nugatory.

During Tuesday's news conference, opposition stressed about the speaker Abdullah Maseeh's no-confidence, adding further that a sitting conducted in his presence will not be considered legit.
