Former President Mohamed Nasheed - who was sentenced to a jail term of 13 years of being guilty with terrorism - says he was able to seek medical attention from abroad due to the aid of Indian government.
The self exiled former president - who is visiting India on an invitation by a think-tank of the country stated the invitation to him from the Indian government is a strong indication of India's critic overview of Maldivian state.
Former President Nasheed was quoted stating this during an interview he gave to The Wire.
"The arrangements for my medical leave came with significant assistance from India. I am currently residing at UK, while I frequent Sri Lanka" he was quoted during the interview.
While speaking with India's The Wire, Nasheed lamented over the territorial dispute between China and India - while strongly favoring India's end over the issue - he stated his disagreement over the Maldives-China bilateral relationship.
He also emphasized the influence and oppression of the Maldivian state over the judicial bodies and framework in the country, stating "I don't think swapping the judges and magistrates is the correct approach to it. Or changing the personnel in judiciary" as he strongly believes that the judicial system will act transparently without bias or favoring any specific political entity if the system is not meddled by the government.
Nasheed's comment on the issue was backed by a relating question from Wire, asking him about the consequences over the alleged kidnapping of Supreme Court's chief justice - questioning him if he regrets the decisions he took about the case.
The former president responded stating there were better alternatives in handling the situation without any arrest involved.
