Chief Judge dismisses MP Faris' appeal case

Dhiggaru constituency lawmaker and son of former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, Faris Maumoon's appeal case over his arrest for alleged grafting of several lawmakers and misuse of PPM's logo and flag, has been dismissed by the chief judge Abdullah Didi of High Court - according to his lawyer Maumoon Hameed.

In a letter sent to chief judge from Faris' advocate Hameed, said that it was notified by the chief judge's section at High Court about the dismissal the appeal case - and further information regarding the case would be disclosed from the mentioned section.

Apart from chief judge Abdullah Didi, the Dhiggaru constituency lawmaker's appeal case is handled by judges Abdul-Rauf Ibrahim and Ali Sameer.

The defendant's advocate, Hameed had requested to specify the reason for dismissal of Faris' appeal case in his letter - while he also inquired for any changes to the judges' panel.

Furthermore, Maumoon Hameed has requested to pace up the verdict over the case. The trial has concluded all of its hearings, and a previous date was table for verdict delivery. However, the tabled sentencing was cancelled and it has not been re-scheduled afterwards.

High Court has been unavailable to comment over the case.
