Disqualified MPs challenge to attend parliament despite obstacles

The four lawmakers who recently were ruled by Elections Commission to have lost their seats at parliament has challenged the order by refusal as they have stressed that neither Supreme Court nor any official entities have produced a direct ruling regarding the credibility of their parliament seats.

All four MPs who are under question of possible unseating have strongly urged they will be attend parliament proceedings.

The members include Thulusdhoo constituency member Mohamed Waheed, Maduvvari constituency lawmaker Mohamed Ameeth along with Vilingili and Dhidhoo constituency members Saud Hussain and Abdul Latheef Mohamed respectively.

All four, during a press conference held at Kunoozu on Saturday, reiterated their claim to being safe from the impending anti-defection unseating. They referred to Supreme Court's ruling which stated the members had not lost their seats.

Maduvvari member Ameeth stressed that there were no legal grounds which could press them from entering parliament premises or attending sittings.

Lawmaker Saud had criticized Elections Commission, branding the entity as unlawful and practicing illicit and biased conduct. He also said the opposition alliance are currently deliberating for the next course of action regarding the matter.

During Saturday's press conference parliamentarian Latheef said that he still holds specific documents entitled to only parliament members and authorities had not pressurized to recollect those documents back from him. He also noted that neither PPM, Elections Commission or the local Parliament had officially declared them stripped from parliamentarian rights.
