Chief SP Riyaz faces suspension, additional officers under scutiny

Rumors have sparked that Chief Superintendent of Police Mohamed Riyaz and several high ranking officers of Maldives Police Service are under scrutiny of Disciplinary Committee. While several officers are believed to face termination or suspension, Riyaz is apparently faces an impending suspension.

SP Riyaz had spearheaded several high profile investigations as he had been a Deputy Head at Crime Investigation Department. He also contributed to the famous model and medical student Raudha Athif's murder investigation - of which Riyaz had achieved successful progression in the probe.

Raudha Athif who appeared on the cover of Vogue's Indian Edition received media breakthrough from a famous picture of her half submerged self into the turquoise ocean sporting aqua blue eyes - a famous caption for the picture ran as "Maldivian Girl with Aqua Blue Eyes".

Riyaz who contributes to several high profile investigations have been strongly rumored to face suspension on Sunday following a Disciplinary Committee probe into the SP's conduct. Amid this apparent suspension, rumors have suggested that Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Abullah Fairoosh, ACP Hussain Adam and Chief Superintendent Abdullah Ahmed faces termination from their held designations.

However their attached disciplinary cases have not been disclosed yet.

Meanwhile Police Spokesperson Ahmed Shifan corresponded regarding the rumors and Disciplinary Committee actions, stating cases involving police officials are personal matters to the tried subject and therefore they refrain from revealing details of the cases.

He also highlighted that under the new policy any decision by Disciplinary Board would not be disclosed to media.
