Injured MPL staff requires amputation

A Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) staff who was seriously injured requires amputation to his leg according to his family.

MPL confirmed the incident took place due to the staff's leg getting jammed and crushed by a container. The accident occurred on September 4.

All safety regulations were intact and the company assures that there was no room for irresponsible oversight regarding precautionary conduct.

Shortly after the accident, the injured MPL worker was transported to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) where doctors performed surgery on the injured leg. His family explained that following the surgery, he was recovering however he was flown to India on Friday, last week where he is treated at Kims Hospital.

Doctors at Kims had diagnosed the worker and advised his family that due to a surgery performed on the bones without attending to the muscles of the injured area of his leg, he requires an amputation on his leg.

According to a family member they had sought advise and recommendation from several doctors and physicians - all of whom had commended on amputating the MPL worker's damaged leg.

He will undergo the amputation at Kims Hospital sometime on Monday night.

All medical expenses of the MPL worker is arranged and covered through the ports corporation.
