Parliamentary govt. oversight committee attends social flat scandal

Parliament's government oversight committee has ordered Housing Ministry to disclose the full credentials of the winning candidates under government initiated social housing scheme to local parliament.

The parliament watchdog made the decision sometime today.

Housing Ministry revealed only the form numbers of the winning 661 applicants under the social flat scheme, putting the state in dispute with the opposition and several locals who have heavily criticized the move.

Housing Minister rebuffed the negative remarks, stating the decision was taken in order to "protect their rights", referring to the successful candidates of the social housing scheme.

Opposition presented the case to parliamentary government oversight committee where members deliberated over the issue to derive a course of action. The decision to demand full credentials of winning candidates of the tentative list from Housing Ministry was thus decided through the mutual agreement of the members of the committee.

The issue was presented for discussion by Maradhoo constituency lawmaker Ibrahim Shareef which was agreed by Hulhudhoo constituency parliamentarian Shahid.
