Manhunt for two suspects tied to boat captain murder

Police has released mugshots and details of two individuals who are believed to be suspects tied to the murder of Mohamed Anas - who was stabbed multiple times at the showroom of Litus Service Center of July 31, 2017.

The two suspects are Mohamed Saaz, 21, Gulfaamuge, Thaa Atoll Kin'bidhoo and Afrah Abdul-Razzaq, 21, Maafannu Lonumidhilige, Male'. Maldives Police Service has requested any individual with relevant information about the whereabouts of the suspects to step forward and disclose the details to authorities.

He was stabbed by a group of men wielding several sharp implements who had repeatedly stabbed the boat captain from Raa Atoll Fenfiyaazu-ge, even while the victim lay in a pool of blood near motionless.

CCTV footage showed one of the assailant repeatedly stabbing the victim's neck even after he fell to the floor.

Anas died shortly after he was transported to ADK Hospital for medical attention.

Police had made several arrests last month pertaining to the murder to Mohamed Anas which had included the apprehension of a 23 year old individual and a minor from Maafanu Dhimisgu, Male'. Additionally 12 individuals were arrested on August 6 from Maafannu Asaree Hiyaa.

Police confirms that among the arrested several suspects were minors.

Mohamed Anas, who worked as a boat captain ferrying travelers from the atoll to Male' was killed while he was visiting the capital.

His family affirms the youth had no affiliation with any hoodlum crowds or gangs, while some rumors had spiked the murder was orchestrated by the former husband of Anas's wife-to-be. At the time of his demise, he was days away from getting married.

The deceased's father released a statement condemning any acts of false accusation and the spread of faux details about the murder of his son, urging everyone to cooperate accordingly in order to bring the culprits to justice.
