MTCC's mega dredger to overseas projects

Maldives Transport and Contract Company's (MTCC) mega hopper suction dredger "Mahaa Jarraaf" would be used in overseas projects as well, says the company's chairman Ahmed Niyaz.

Speaking during the special function held at Hotel Jen on Saturday night - to sell additional shares to the company's shareholders - chairman Niyaz said the dredger will help for the company to gain financial benefit and thus will be used in overseas projects as well.

MTCC has announced the 92 meter long hopper dredger will arrive in Maldives during October.

Upon arrival the hopper suction dredger will be immediately put to work on ongoing and future planned projects according to chairman of MTCC.

General Manager Ahmed Saeed of MTCC noted the sound investment made in building the dredger stating land reclamation projects are a constant developmental feature in Maldives and therefore the vessel will be utilized to maximum.

"Mahaa Jarraaf" boasts a length of 92.95 meters with a width of 16.30 meters. The dredger is able to excavate sand from 50 meters below sea level with a hopper capacity of 3,700 cubic meters per load.

A total of $ 36 million was accosted for the creation of the dredger which was overseen and handled by Netherlands' IHC.

The dredger was built at China's Nantong Rainbow Marine Technology Boat Yard
