STO hikes petrol and diesel rates

State Trading Organization (STO) has increased the prices of petrol and diesel on Monday.

According to STO the changes were brought due to the lifting prices on crude oil in world market. Diesel will add MVR 0.53 into its current selling rate making it MVR 9.17 per liter while petrol would incur an additional MVR 0.57 to its rate totaling an MVR 9.57 per liter.

Around mid 2017, duty prices on oil imported to Maldives was reduced resulting in a deduction of 51 Laari from a diesel liter while 30 laari was skimmed off from petrol liter, placing the selling rate of diesel at MVR 8.44 and MVR 8.65 on a liter of petrol.

Crude oil prices were at USD 44.74 per barrel around the time.
