State government has collected a revenue of MVR 166 million collected as taxes from the departure tourists and visitors from the international airports operating in Maldives.
According to a monthly report publicized by Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) tax collected as Airport Development Charge (ADC) had accumulated to MVR 166 million by September while the month ended alone had registered a tax collection of MVR 47 million.
In an initiative to garner funds for state budget, government levied an airport development charge from departing persons. Initially the charge was set at USD 25 for locals and expatriates or visitors. However the charges were later on revised and locals had to place a USD 12 as ADC while expatriates paid the initially set amount.
The Airport Development Charge tax was commenced on May 2017.
Meanwhile the forecast for upcoming year's state budget indicated an income of MVR 575 million as ADC collected. However with the charge set for USD 12 from locals would result in a considerable slip from the estimated figure.
