Villa College's Vice Rector had praised the institutes founder Villa Group head and Jumhoory Party leader Qasim Ibrahim for refraining any level of political influence on the academic premises over the 10 years since its inception.
Vice Rector Ali Najeeb highlighted that the institution is an academic premises, which its founder Qasim Ibrahim intends to keep as such. Najeeb had praised that the college's founder had not pushed any political agendas into the institute in any form.
The Vice Rector of Villa College had also commended the Villa Group head for his contributions while he pointed out such traits in local businessmen and politicians are rare.
The college's Rector Dr. Ahmed Anwar had emphasized on the challenges the management and institute had experienced since inception through 10 years of service, when he said "many were skeptical of a private institute delivering proper education. The challenges we faced were formidable."
Villa College's annual report, special booklet commemorating its 10th anniversary and educational strategic plan was announced during the function.
10 years back Villa College was opened with just 60 students on enrollment. Currently the institute boasts a student capacity of 2,000 while 5,000 students have graduated to degree levels. Villa College has established 14 institutes and learning centers in various parts of Maldives.
The institute also became the first college to provide classes on morning and evening hours, and the first to introduce block mode studies as well. Initially the college was run as an institution which was later transitioned to a campus with higher secondary education provided.
As of now, the senior management is attempting to transfer the college into a full-fledged university.
